
Lady Starlight was a performer Gaga had a relationship with during that time. Vince Herbert signed Gaga to Streamline Records in 2007 after an appearance on Lollapalooza Festival. Gaga signed a music publishing agreement with Sony/ATV after she was an apprentice songwriter for Famous Music Publishing. The company then asked her to write music for the likes of Britney Spears as well as Labelmates New Kids on the Block and Fergie. At Interscope, singer-songwriter Akon recognized her vocal abilities when she sang a reference vocal for one of his tracks in studio; Akon then convinced Interscope-Geffen-A&M Chairman and CEO Jimmy Iovine to form a joint deal by having her also sign with his own label Kon Live, making her his "franchise player. Gaga's debut album in 2008 The Fame, which she released in 2008, received only moderate radio airplay. The singer was on tour Europe as well as the US to promote the album. But, it was not until 2009's smash hit 'Just Dance that mainstream pop music really took off. Gaga had a labral tear in her right hip which she was nursing for several weeks in the hope that she would be able continue the tour. Following her show in Toronto Gaga, she was unable to walk and was suffering from severe discomfort. She was taken to the hospital and her tour was cancelled.
